Our story begins early 2019 when some friends got together and began playing around with a racer drone that sparked curiosity and awe. The two founding members of Space City Multimedia, Frank and Niko, were inspired to purchase a small drone of their own–a tiny $10 drone from Fry’s Electronics.
With that small drone they learned how to fly without the advantages of GPS or self-stabilizing technologies, got introduced to LiPo batteries and the dangers associated with using them, and because they were already producing works with photography they began to see the advantages of having an aerial perspective. Niko purchased a small DJI drone and began learning the ins-and-outs of DJI’s user interface, RF technology, and legalities of drone operation. Months later, after some discussions and considerations, the decision to start a photography business with the use of drones was made. We took a photo with Niko’s small DJI drone right after that decision was made.
Frank, the other founding member of Space City Multimedia who is also a Part 61 certificated pilot, earned his Part 107 license and together with Niko began discussing business details that would later allow for our doors to open for business. We decided on the name because our main operations would be held in Houston, Texas which is well known for being a “space city.” “Houston, we have a problem,” is hopefully not something we will ever have to say, however.
